Muselmann

Muselmann is a term used for concentration camp prisoners who were on the verge of death from starvation, exhaustion, and despair. A person who had reached the Muselmann stage had little, if any, chance for survival and usually died within weeks. Ernst himself became dangerously close to this description towards the end.
