Leonberg camp

Leonberg was chosen as the site for a large subcamp of the Natzweiler concentration camp because an airplane parts manufacturing plant (Presswerke) for the firm Augsburg Messerschmitt AG was located there. The exact date of the camp’s creation is unknown, but it appears that the first transport of prisoners arrived on April 10, 1944. Death dominated Ernst’s thoughts at Leonberg; but psychologically he was not yet completely broken.
